Swatch Watches
Remember Swatch? When I was a pre-teen and well into my teen years, Swatch watches were THE item we all had to have. The colorful, fun, and funky prints on these plastic watches seemed to come in a limitless variety. Even the jelly watch guards that covered most of the watch face became trendy. Having at least two guards in contrasting colors was very cool.
Even the trends within the Swatch watch era were different from when I was a young teen until I was an older teen (at which point I think Fossil watches took over as the uber cool watch statement). When I was younger, POP Swatches were huge along the lines of a chunky cuff bracelet. The bands were made out of stretch elastic that used to leave my skin feeling compressed and sweaty. Suffering for fashion never goes out of style!
Ah, nostalgia! But low and behold, it seems Swatch is coming back. Okay, so maybe it never really left for some of us. The Spring/Summer 2008 Swatch collection seems to be marketed towards an older demographic—perhaps those of us who were teens when the first Swatch craze hit. The new pieces incorporate chunky links of metal and some bright colors but also some more neutral varieties to go with more pieces in your wardrobe. Even the ads are impressive—much more high fashion that teen magazine.
